Hart will retire as a Milwaukee Brewer on Friday.
He will also be inducted into the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor as part of a pregame ceremony. While he has been out of baseball since 2015, this officially marks the end of his career. He has a .271/.329/.478 career slash line with 162 home runs and 85 steals in 1,048 games, and was a fantasy force from 2007 to 2012 due to his unique power/speed combo.
Corey Hart (knee) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
This is just a procedural move for the Pirates who were looking to open up another spot on the 40-man roster. With Hart recovering from his shoulder injury, it is unclear as to whether or not he will be able to return this season.
As expected, Corey Hart will begin rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
Hart is working his way back from a knee injury that landed him on the DL in July. Two DL stints have limited Hart to just 35 games this season where he has hit .222 with three runs, two home runs and nine RBI.
Pirates plan to send Corey Hart on a rehab assignment Thursday.
This will be the second planned rehab assignment for Hart this season after being pulled off one in July after feeling discomfort in the ailing shoulder. If Hart makes it through the rehab assignment, he almost assuredly be a bench player for the likely playoff bound Pirates.
