OF Nate Schierholtz has been suspended 80 games for PED violation.
Former Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz, an East Bay product who was part of the 2010 and 2012 World Series championship teams, has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating it’s policy against using performance enhancing drugs. Schierholtz his a minor league free agent who has not played in the majors since 2014, with the Nationals. The San Ramon Valley High alum was drafted and developed by the Giants, who traded him to Philadelphia as part of the Hunter Pence deal.
Nate Schierholtz was released by the Tigers on Monday.
Schierholtz was last seen at the major level in 2014 and it looks like his chances of returning are dwindling after being released on Monday. The 32-year old hit just .246 for Triple-A Toledo before being released.

The Tigers are trimming their roster as opening day approaches and Schierholtz will now have to go to the minors. The outfielder will hope to impress and be an option later, but he has no fantasy value at this point.

Schierholtz has long been a platoon player and is a career .253 hitter with 48 home runs against right-handed pitching. He didn't play in the majors in 2015 and is a long shot to make Detroit's 25-man roster.
