It was a below average spring training for Chavez who batted just .190/.292/.238. The free agent still has skills as a versatile defender capable of handling all three outfield spots. He also brings speed to teams looking for a bench piece.

Chavez will go down to Triple-A and wait for someone in the Seattle outfield to suffer an injury. You can safely ignore him in fantasy unless he gets a recall this season.

He is strictly a platoon player with much better splits against right handed pitching. When the Mariners traded for Austin Jackson, he became an afterthought in the outfield. Let us see how he performs in spring before deciding he is worth a waiver wire claim.

The Mariners will bring in Chavez on a minor league deal and he isn't expected to make much of a fantasy impact this season. The Mariners have plenty of capable outfielders such as Dustin Ackley, Austin Jackson, Seth Smith, James Jones, and Nelson Cruz. The depth in the Seattle outfield will make it very hard for Chavez to find playing time.
