Former Twins reliever Jared Burton receives a 50-game suspension for a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
When will these boys every learn? It looks like we now know why Burton found some success last year and now he'll take his punishment, hopefully like a man, and walk away. No word on whether the Twins will consider cutting him loose, but he's a dead spot on the roster at this point in time.
Triple-A Round Rock RHP Jared Burton asked for and was granted his release Tuesday.
The Texas Rangers had no need for a 34-year-old journeyman so they probably weren't too upset when Burton asked for his release. The right-hander did pitch well in his 12 appearances compiling a 0.90 ERA and a 0.70 WHIP.
Rangers have signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract and sent him to Triple-A Round Rock.
Burton was very good with the Twins in 2012 but he saw he strikeout rate plummet and his walk rate soar in 2014. It is certainly possible he regains his form from a couple of years ago, but the odds of that happening do not seem particularly great.
Jared Burton was released from his contract at Triple-A.
He can now pursue opportunities with other clubs. He was not exactly blowing hitters away at Triple-A, posting a 6.75 ERA in four innings of work.
