Infielder Mark Ellis has been activated from 15-day disabled list.
It\'s not clear as to how much playing time Ellis will receive upon returning. The Cardinals could platoon him with Kolten Wong as they did before, so he could have some value in deeper NL-only play.
Mark Ellis has been placed on the disabled list with a left oblique strain.
What was originally being described as soreness has now turned into a full-blown DL stint. No word on whether he is going to require more than the minimum 15 days. Kolten Wong should be in the lineup nearly every day, but infielder Greg Garcia was also recalled.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny reveals that Mark Ellis was unavailable Monday due to "soreness," but was not specific about the issue.
Ellis is slashing a mere .192/.267/.228 with no home runs and 12 RBI, but has managed to keep his spot on the Cardinals roster despite a miserable season. Although the team has not revealed what exacting is sore on his body, it isn\'t going to effect his fantasy value in the least considering he doesn\'t have any at this point in the year.
Mark Ellis went 1-for-3 with an RBI-single and a sacrifice fly in the Cardinals 5-3 victory over the Phillies.
Mark Ellis is getting more playing time because Kolten Wong is on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury, which he will be getting an MRI on today, Monday.
