Reimold has decided to retire from professional baseball.

After failing to gin up much interest from MLB teams this offseason, Reimold latched on with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League in April to keep his career going. The 33-year-old only batted .238 in 63 at-bats with the Ducks, and with MLB offers still not imminent, Reimold will walk away from the game. Across parts of eight seasons with the Orioles, Blue Jays and Diamondbacks, Reimold turned in a .246 lifetime average and hit 56 home runs.

It appears Reimold's career will take an unexpected turn here, as the 33-year-old takes a leave from Major League Baseball. The veteran outfielder hit .222/.300/.365 as a reserve outfielder for the Orioles last year before electing free agency this offseason. Reimold could make a return to the big leagues in due time, but he'll head a different direction for now.

Reimold has only played a part-time role in the Baltimore outfield this season and will find himself back on the bench to start Thursday's game. Hyun-Soo Kim, Adam Jones, and Mark Trumbo will make up the starting outfield from left to right against the Twins.

Nolan Reimold went 2-for-3 with a home run (3), three RBI and two runs scored during the Orioles 6-3 victory against the White Sox

The Orioles have a plan when to play Reimold and that’s against lefties. His hitting splits alone are a huge difference as he hits .357 against southpaws and .286 against right-handers, which is still respectable. Reimold took young lefty Carlos Rodon deep for his third home run this season in just 13 games played. If Reimold can continue to hit at a .355 clip, he’ll continue to receive at-bats. This shouldn’t make you consider picking him up in fantasy. He’s nothing more than a platoon player as of now.
