Brandon Drury went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

The White Sox needed a backup infielder with Chase Meidroth landing on the IL, but they opted for Bobby Dalbec instead of Drury. Perhaps that should tell us that Meidroth won’t be out for a long time, but it also tells us that they’re not ready to move on from any of their active infielders to call up the 32-year-old Drury. It could happen in the next month or so though.

Brandon Drury went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

This was Drury’s first rehab game after fracturing his thumb in spring training. The veteran had a tremendous spring, hitting .410/.439/.821 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 41 plate appearances and seemed set to make the White Sox’s opening day roster before getting hurt. He’ll likely need at least another week of rehab games, but he could easily force his way into this White Sox lineup.

White Sox re-signed INF Brandon Drury to a minor league contract.

Drury had a terrific spring and was tracking to open up as the White Sox’s primary DH, but he suffered a fractured thumb a week before the season started and was released from his minor league deal. One imagines he’s still a few weeks away from being an option for the club, but he could emerge as a regular in May.

White Sox released 3B Brandon Drury.

Drury had the option to test free agency if he wasn’t selected for the White Sox’ Opening Day roster and he exercised that right Sunday. The 32-year-old infielder was having a great spring and seemed like a lock for Chicago’s roster before he broke his thumb. It’s unclear when Drury might be able to play again or what his plans are going forward.
