J.P Arencibia has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.
This comes out of nowhere considering Arencibia is only 31 years old. He ends his career with a .212 average to go along with 80 home runs and 245 RBI's over his six years in the majors.
Rays have signed J.P. Arencibia to a minor league deal.
Arencibia played with the Rays for parts of last season and was brought in to supplement current catchers Curt Casali and Hank Conger.

Arencibia doesn't offer much behind the plate, other than a warm body that may possibly block a ball from time to time, but could provide plenty of power behind the dish which has been the Rays M.O. this year. Arencibia currently has 80 home runs over his major league career and is averaging a long ball about once every 22 plate appearances.
Phillies release J.P. Arencibia from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The veteran backstop signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training with the Phillies back in December but was sent to Triple-A out of camp and hasn't exactly performed well there. He is hitting just .167 but wants to explore other opportunities. Whether or not they come is another story altogether however he is now free to sign with anyone he chooses.
