Butler spent the 2016 season between the A's and Yankees, posting a .284/.336/.416 slash line with five homers and 18 doubles across 274 plate appearances. With the way the Rays' roster is shaping up, Butler would likely see time at both DH and first base opposite left-handed pitchers should he sign in Tampa Bay.

After signing Butler on Wednesday, he'll be right in the middle of the lineup just a day later. The Red Sox are sending lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill as Butler hits .262 against LHP this year. Butler could be exactly what the Yankees are looking for at DH to finish this season.

Butler has hit .276 this season, but the four home runs are low for him. He's losing pop by the day and he isn't a reliable option for the team the rest of the way. Do not add him.
