Phillies release LHP Matt Harrison.
As part of the Cole Hamels trade last season, Harrison was acquired by the Phillies from the Rangers. Harrison was an All-Star in 2012 but back injuries have limited him to only throwing 44 innings since. After missing the entire 2016 season the Phillies have released him and will be responsible for the $15.2 million remaining on his contract.
Matt Harrison was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.
Harrison missed all of 2016 due to injury, and has just nine appearances over the last 4 seasons. He is not someone to target for fantasy at any level, as his status is not clear for 2017.
Phillies placed Matt Harrison (back) on the 60-day disabled list.
Harrison has yet to make an appearance for the Phillies after coming over from Texas at the trade deadline last season. He has now been placed on the 60-day DL and is unlikely to pitch in 2016. Harrison has a long road ahead of him if he wants to be an effective pitcher again as this back injury has completely derailed his career.
Update: Matt Harrison (back) visited with a back specialist and isn’t expected to be in spring camp. Harrison is unlikely to pitch this year.
At just 30-years old, Matt Harrison may have thrown his last pitch in the majors. He's only pitched in nine games since 2012 where he picked up 18 wins. Harrison's back injury is serious enough that it could end his career. It's almost certain we won't see him this year.
