The club would rather take a longer look at some of their younger arms over the final month of the season, so Pineda -- an impending free agent -- gets the boot. There's a chance that another team could be willing to take a chance on a proven veteran arm that's capable of eating innings, despite his 5.79 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the season.

The right-hander walked two and struck out three on the night. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball -- with Nick Pratto blasting a solo homer in the first inning and Bobby Witt Jr. adding a three-run bomb in the third. Pineda got seven swings and misses on 80 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He'll look to get back on track and improve upon a disappointing 5.79 ERA and 1.41 WHIP when he takes on these same Royals in Kansas City on Friday.

Pineda was activated from the injured list earlier this week and will make his first start for the Tigers on Saturday since July 23. The 33-year-old veteran right-hander has compiled a lackluster 5.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 23/6 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (10 starts) this season. He's not a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers, despite a soft landing against the Royals in his return.

Recovered from a bout of triceps tightness, Pineda will return to the Tigers' starting rotation on Saturday against the Royals. He's pitched well at times his year but has mostly been tangling with stints on the injured list and carries an overall 5.27 ERA.
