Ackley hadn't been doing too poorly this spring, recording a .776 OPS in limited at-bats, but he'll nevertheless have to look elsewhere for work. The 31-year-old hasn't played a game in the majors since 2016 and hasn't had an above-average batting line at the highest level since his debut season back in 2011.

Ackley is back with the team who drafted him after spending the previous two seasons with the Angels' Triple-A affiliate. The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2016, when he struggled to a .148/.243/.148 slash line across 28 games with the Yankees.

Ackley is back with the Angels after spending all of the 2017 season with their Triple-A affiliate. The former 2nd overall pick will report to Triple-A Salt Lake, where he hit .261/.340/.376 across 116 games last year. He'll serve as organizational depth.

Ackley (shoulder) went 1-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and one strikeout in the first game of the season for Triple-A Salt Lake.

He was deployed as the DH, and should eventually slot into the field once his shoulder improves. Ackley is simply expected to serve as organizational depth this season, and the Angels would need to purchase his contract and add him to the 40-man roster if they want to summon him from Triple-A.
