Lake had plenty of opportunities this spring to make a splash, but he recorded just four base hits in 22 at-bats, resulting in a .182 batting average. He'll join Seattle's minor-league camp for the remainder of the spring and figures to begin the season with Triple-A Tacoma.

Lake signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners on Wednesday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Lake spent the 2017 season with Triple-A Pawtucket within the Red Sox's system, but only played in 19 games, slashing .246/.292/.311 with one RBI and two stolen bases. The 27-year-old has prior major-league experience, which includes a 2014 season when he appeared in 108 games for the Cubs, although he's never been able to find his groove in the big leagues. Moving forward, he will provide added outfield depth for Seattle and will likely begin the 2018 campaign in Triple-A Tacoma.

Lake struggled with Toronto last season, but he's only a few seasons removed from hitting over .280 in over 250 plate appearances. However, since then, he hasn't hit above .211. Yikes. Make things easy on yourself and leave this guy off your draft cheat sheet.

Red Sox signed Junior Lake to a minor league contract.

Lake seemed like a budding outfielder for the Cubs back in 2013, when he posted a .284/.332/.428 slash line with six homer and 16 doubles across 254 plate appearances as a rookie. However, he has struggled to stay in the bigs due to an inability top build off those numbers over the past three seasons. Lake has bounced around from Chicago to Baltimore then Toronto since the beginning of the 2015 season.
