Jacob deGrom picked up his first victory of the 2025 season on Tuesday night, racking up seven strikeouts over six innings of shutout baseball.
The star right-hander scattered four hits on the evening — all of them singles — and didn’t walk a batter. He was staked to a massive early lead and just needed to keep the train on the tracks to earn a victory in this one. He was also extremely efficient, needing just 65 pitches (47 strikes) to navigate his six frames. The 36-year-old hurler got 16 swings and misses on the evening, eight of them on his fastball which averaged 97.4 mph and touched as high as 99.6 mph. He’ll look to replicate this brilliant performance as he carries a 2.73 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 33/7 K/BB ratio (33 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Mariners.
Jacob deGrom picked up a win while allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts against the Athletics on Thursday.
Jacob deGrom allowed three hits and one earned run with one walk and seven strikeouts in a tough-luck loss to the Dodgers on Friday.
There was a moment of panic after deGrom allowed a lead-off home run to Tommy Edman. Struggling a bit to start the season and being especially prone to homers, that was a scary way to start the game. Yet, he instantly pulled the nose back up on this start and faced just two batters over the minimum from that point to the end of his outing and completed seven innings for the first time since April 11th, 2023. It wasn’t necessarily vintage deGrom, though. He forced just eight swings-and-misses and barely got the Dodgers to chase anything out of the strike zone. Also, he didn’t throw a single curveball for the first time all season and only mixed in a handful of changeups to left-handed batters. It’s been fun trying to re-calibrate our understanding of who deGrom is at this point in his career and it’s encouraging that he held the Dodgers’ dangerous lineup in check without missing many bats. He’s set to take on the Athletics in his next start.
Jacob deGrom allowed four runs in four innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday.
The 36-year-old struggled with his command, and allowed two homers and four walks. There were flashes of the old deGrom with four strikeouts, but a disappointing result consider the lineup and the park he was pitching in. He’ll face the Angels next week and look to lower a 4.30 ERA.
