Ramirez has always been known more for his defense, which does not help anyone in fantasy. His bat has always been light and with his once solid defense in decline, it will be tough for him to find any meaningful role in the majors in 2017. He is more of a bench player at this point in his career.

It's been a long, difficult season for the Rays and Ramirez so why not pair the two sides up and make it one big awful party! Ramirez is a long ways from his All-Star appearance days from a few seasons ago and the Rays best shortstop now plays first base and some outfield as well. Ramirez's signing still doesn't do anything for anyone from a fantasy aspect.

Ramirez is hitting just .240 on the year with 5 HR's, but he likely won't be a free agent for too long. With rosters expanding to 40 men Ramirez is the kind of player teams would love to have because of his veteran experience and ability to play all over the infield.

Ramirez has faded from fantasy relevance this year and is serving as a placeholder for his team until prospects are ready to take over.
