Fiers, 36, was limited to just two starts last season with the A's because of an elbow issue. He'll likely be looking to prove his health before hoping to latch on with a major league club.

Fiers worked as a starter in his rehab debut Tuesday at Triple-A Las Vegas and surrendered three earned runs over just 1 2/3 innings. If he does make it back to the A's this year, it'll almost certainly be in a bullpen role. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since early May due to an elbow sprain.

It'll be his first live game since he went down with a sprained right elbow back in early May. Fiers could be an option for the A's before the end of the 2021 regular season, probably in a long relief role.

Baby steps, but progress nonetheless. Fiers has been out since May 7 due to lingering elbow discomfort.
