AJ Pollock is joining the Mariners for the remainder of spring training in a coaching role.
Pollock hasn’t officially announced his retirement from professional baseball, but it sounds like he’s ready to transition to a career in coaching. The 36-year-old veteran outfielder split last year between the Mariners and Giants. He’s also had stints with the Diamondbacks, Dodgers and White Sox over a 12-year career since 2012.

Pollock wound up playing just five games for the Giants after being traded from the Mariners before landing on the injured list with a left oblique strain. The club opted to release him rather than open up a spot on their active roster after the 35-year-old veteran wrapped up a minor league rehab stint with Triple-A Sacramento over the weekend.

Pollock suffered an oblique strain in early August, playing in just five games for the Giants after he was traded to San Francisco at the Trade Deadline. He will likely need to go out on a rehab assignment before he is activated in September.
