Angels signed RHP Hector Neris to a minor league deal.
Neris elected free agency after Atlanta designated him for assignment, and has a new home a couple weeks later. The 35-year-old will likely need to pitch in a few games with Triple-A Salt Lake, but it’s not hard to see him being an option in the Angels’ bullpen in the coming weeks. Not a fantasy-relevant one, but an option nevertheless.
Héctor Neris has elected free agency.
Neris passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week by the Braves. The 35-year-old journeyman reliever will test the open market in search of a new opportunity. He’s made 610 relief appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2014.
Braves designated RHP Héctor Neris for assignment.
Neris was given a one-run lead in the seventh on Opening Day and took a blown save and a loss by giving up three runs. His outing Sunday was also unsuccessful, though the Braves were losing that game anyway. Obviously, he’s kind of a big name to be giving up on so quickly. Still, he was below average last year, and his stuff isn’t quite there yet right now after he signed late. He might be better equipped to retire major league hitters a month from now.
Braves selected the contract of RHP Enyel De Los Santos and RHP Héctor Neris from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Both De Los Santos and Neris were brought in on minor-league deals, and both showed enough in Florida to be part of the MLB roster. Neris will likely be a late-inning arm to begin the campaign, while De Los Santos will operate a little earlier with the ability to go more than one frame.
