Almonte got into eight games last year for the Mets and will attempt to keep his playing career going in Mexico.

Almonte went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend and will presumably stick around with the Mets as extra organizational outfield depth moving forward.

Sunday marks the second time that Almonte was DFA’d by the Mets in August. He went unclaimed last time and will like return to Triple-A Syracuse after passing through waiver again.

Almonte is back with the Mets just a few days after being removed from the club’s 40-man roster. The 34-year-old veteran outfielder figures to occupy a bench role for the next few weeks.
