Casey McGehee signed a one-year deal with Japan's Yomiuri Giants.
After playing in the big leagues sporadically since 2008, McGehee has decided to take his talents abroad and sign with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. The former Marlin was hitting just .258 with a sub-.700 OPS in his Major League career, so it's no surprise that he's on his way out of the MLB.

McGehee is coming back up as a bench bat and another third base option with Nick Castellanos still on the DL. Detroit is still in the hunt of the Wild Card discussion so the veteran hot cornerman will give them some experience down the stretch.

As part of a roster shake up, the veteran infielder has been sent back down to Toledo. He has hit .232 in 22 games this season for Detroit and should come back up when rosters expand over the next week or so. He is simply a bench bat even when he is with the big league squad.

The move is to give the Tigers some infield depth while Nick Castellanos is on the disabled list. Mike Aviles replaced Castellanos in the game Saturday and will likely see some extra playing time. The Tigers signed McGehee specifically for this type of situation and he accepted a minor league assignment with the organization to give them some veteran depth.
