The Padres signed INF Brad Miller to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring camp.
Miller was recently with the Rangers for the past two seasons. He had his 2023 season cut short when he was placed on the 60-day IL with a hamstring injury in September. The 34-year-old journeyman has been with seven different franchises during his 11-year career. The left-handed hitter is likely to compete for a bench spot while with the Padres.
Rangers transferred INF/OF Brad Miller to the 60-day injured list.
Miller had been on a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco after recovering from a left hamstring strain, but now he won’t be eligible to return before the end of the regular season. The move frees up a spot on the Rangers’ 40-man roster for Evan Carter to join the big league roster on Friday.
Brad Miller (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Friday.
Miller landed on the injured list at the start of the month due to a left hamstring strain. The veteran hasn’t done much with the Rangers this season, but he should be ready to return soon if there’s a need.
Brad Miller went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored as the Rangers topped the Dodgers 8-4 on Sunday.
Presumably as some sort of reward for his two-inning mop-up appearance in Saturday’s 16-3 loss, Miller started today for the first time since May 9. Now, he did spend four weeks on the IL last month, but even so, that’s about six weeks on the active roster in which he had a total of seven plate appearances. Nevertheless, he came through nicely today. Maybe he’ll get more DH time at Mitch Garver’s expense while Corey Seager is out.
