The salary exceeds what Van Slyke would have received had he remained with the Marlins on a minor-league deal for the rest of the season, likely making it an easy decision for the 31-year-old to head overseas. Van Slyke has spent the entire 2018 campaign with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans, slashing .248/.354/.467 across 161 plate appearances. If he's able to make an impact in Korea over the next couple of months, Van Slyke could net a larger deal in the KBO this winter or perhaps generate renewed interest from MLB teams.

Van Slyke played in 29 games with the Dodgers last season, but slashed an unimpressive .122/.250/.293 with two home runs and three RBI in 48 at-bats. His numbers at Triple-A Oklahoma City were slightly better, but don't provide much hope that the 31-year-old will see meaningful time at the major-league level.

After being traded to Cincinnati in the deal that sent Tony Cingrani to the Dodgers, Van Slyke was quickly designated for assignment. In 29 games at the big-league level with the Dodgers, he went 5-for-41 while playing primarily off the bench. With Cincinnati, he'll serve as depth in the outfield and doesn't figure to see much playing time even if he makes it to the 40-man roster this season.

With the team claiming right-hander Luke Farrell from the Dodgers, Van Slyke loses his place on the 40-man roster while being handed a DFA on Wednesday. The outfielder has played in 29 games at the major-league level this season -- all with the Dodgers -- but has hit just .122/.250/.293 with 15 strikeouts in 41 at-bats.
