Cubs released LHP Tony Cingrani.
Cingrani allowed just five runs (four earned) with a 15/4 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (12 appearances) at Triple-A Iowa after inking a minor-league deal with the Cubs back in early July. The 32-year-old lefty hasn't appeared in the majors since 2018.
Cubs signed LHP Tony Cingrani to a minor league contract.
Cingrani posted a 1.13 ERA and 14/1 K/BB ratio over eight innings for the independent league Lexington Legends in what was his first game action since he had labrum surgery on his left shoulder. The 31-year-old is worthy of a flier on a minor league pact.
Tony Cingrani has signed with the Lexington Legends.
The Legends are a part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and are not affiliated with any MLB club. The left-hander worked out for teams on February 1, but failed to secure a contract and now will get a chance to throw in the side league. A former third-round pick, Cingrani has dealt with injuries and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2018 with the Dodgers.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that free agent left-hander Tony Cingrani will throw for teams on February 1.
Cingrani failed to latch on with a team last year after requiring labrum surgery in 2019. The 31-year-old last pitched for the Dodgers in 2018, posting a 4.76 ERA with 36 strikeouts and six walks in 22 2/3 relief innings. He might have to settle for a spring training invite somewhere.
