Chris Bassitt wasn’t at his best in Sunday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up four runs on six hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Bassitt stuck out five batters on the evening while issuing one base on balls. He had been locked in a tight 1-1 pitcher’s duel with Clarke Schmidt until the sixth inning where the wheels fell off for him. There, he surrendered a leadoff solo homer to Aaron Judge and allowed a two-out RBI double to Jasson Dominguez before turning the ball over to the bullpen who then allowed Dominguez to score as well. Bassitt got six whiffs on 92 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of just 23 percent. After losing two straight starts, Bassitt still sports a terrific 2.62 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 39/7 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings through his first six outings. He’ll look to right the ship when he takes on the Guardians at home on Saturday.

The 36-year-old hurler walked one and struck out three on the night. The Astros jumped on him right out of the gate in this one, scratching out three runs in the opening inning on a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly. Bassitt found his groove after that, but the damage had already been done. He got seven whiffs on 96 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to get back in the win column as he totes a 1.88 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 34/6 K/BB ratio (28 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Red Sox.

Blue Jays pitchers punched out 19 in all today, with Michael Harris II and Austin Riley striking out four times apiece. Bassitt faced those two three times and came away with nothing but strikeouts. It was his first 10-strikeout game since 2023, when he twice struck out 12 batters (his career high). Bassitt moved to 2-0 with a 0.77 ERA. He’s struck out one-third of the batters he’s faced this season, which is about 1.5 times his usual career rate of 22%. He’ll face the Astros next.

The 36-year-old right-hander struck out five opposing hitters on the day while issuing one free pass. The Red Sox scratched out a run against him in the sixth inning as Jarren Duran drew a one-out walk, swiped second base and scored on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Alex Bregman. That unfortunately, was enough to keep him out of the win column. Bassitt generated 16 swings and misses on 86 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to keep the party going as he brings a minuscule 0.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 21/3 K/BB ratio (18 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s showdown against the Braves.
