Danny Farquhar has been hired by the Mariners as a pitching strategist and assistant pitching coach.
Farquhar had been working in the minors with the White Sox since retiring from baseball in 2019. He pitched for the Mariners in three of his seven big-league seasons, posting a 3.85 ERA in 155 relief appearances for the club.
Farquhar took a job with the White Sox as a pitching coach, ending his playing career, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Farquhar was released by the Yankees in June and opted to transition to a coaching role after failing to latch on elsewhere. Across parts of seven big-league seasons, the right-hander compiled a career 3.93 ERA and 10.2 K/9 in 272.1 innings.
Farquhar has been released by the Yankees, Conor Foley of the Times-Tribune reports.
The Yankees released the 32-year-old reliever Wednesday after he appeared in just two games for the RailRiders. He struggled in those appearances, giving up seven earned runs on six hits over three innings.
Farquhar joined Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, Michele Steele of ESPN reports.
Farquhar remained in extended spring training while recovering from the brain aneurysm he suffered last April. He's not on the Yankees' 40-man roster but could still make a push for a bullpen spot should he impress at the Triple-A level.
