The Yankees needed more bullpen arms so Jones was DFA'd for the second time this year by the club. Jones has been disappointing this year while being used very sparingly by the Bombers.

Jones was DFA'd on July 31 to make room for Dustin Ackley. And with Ackley promptly hitting the 15-day DL with a herniated disk, Jones came right back. Jones will not be of much value as he will get limited playing time while backing up star first baseman Mark Teixeira. Jones hit .215 hit with five homers during his first stint with the Yanks.

Garrett Jones is a nice role player for New York, as he provides plus power off the bench and versatility in the outfield and at first base. This doesn’t, however, mean that a ringing fantasy endorsement is in the works for Jones after he hit his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday night in Anaheim. He might be a solid play in daily leagues when he gets the start from manager Joe Girardi, but otherwise, he just doesn’t see enough playing time to render him a legitimate standard league player.
