Dominguez agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPB, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports.
The 28-year-old third baseman spent 2017 with the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate, hitting .264/.295/.425 with 16 home runs in 451 plate appearances. It's possible he will return stateside after this one-year deal is up.
Matt Dominguez signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox with an invitation to spring training.
At 27 years of age, Dominguez offers more of a polished offensive game, which means that he may contribute to the major league club at some point during the regular season. He basically will be taking the Yoan Moncada role in the organization in that he is a semi-ready third baseman. He is nowhere near the prospect of Moncada obviously.
Blue Jays designate Matt Dominguez for assignment.
With the slew of players being recalled for Toronto Friday, they have elected to designate IF Matt Dominguez. Dominguez's vacated roster slot will be filled by Matt Dermody, as Dominguez went 0-11 over five games for Toronto this season.
Matt Dominguez cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent to Triple-A Buffalo.
Dominguez was hitless in 11 at-bats this season and the Blue Jays had seen enough in that small sample to know he was better off in the minors. He had shown some promise in 2013, his best season in the majors, but he has struggled mightily since then.
