Adam Warren, who didn't pitch last season after spending 2021 with the Yankees' Triple-A club, says he has retired.

Warren last pitched in the majors in 2019 before having Tommy John surgery that September. He spent parts of eight seasons in the majors, mostly with the Yankees, and wound up with a fine 3.53 ERA in 21 starts and 302 relief appearances.

Warren was shut down for a few days earlier this month with a sore pitching shoulder, but he's evidently put the ailment behind him. The veteran reliever is competing for a spot in the bullpen.

A tough break for Warren, who missed the entirety of the 2020 season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He's thrown three scoreless innings this spring as a non-roster invitee. The clock is ticking for the season, so this will likely take him out of consideration for a bullpen spot.

Adam Warren indicated Saturday that he is fully healthy and ready to go for the start of Spring Training.

The 33-year-old right-hander missed the entirety of the 2020 season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, but he's now fully recovered and ready to rock. Warren struggled with the Padres during the 2019 season, but was a fixture in the Yankees bullpen for much of the last decade. If he's healthy and shows any semblance of his former self, he has a good shot at earning a role in the Opening Day bullpen.
