The Twins called on Coulombe for the save after Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax each had just worked two days in a row. He handled the heart of the Giants’ order with ease to earn his second save of the season.

Coulombe was called on for the save after it took Jhoan Duran 32 pitches to close out the White in the Twins’ previous game. It was likely Coulombe instead of presumed set-up man Griffin Jax because Jax pitched the seventh inning against the top of Chicago’s lineup whereas Coulombe worked a clean inning against the bottom of it.

Coulombe will be a significant part of the Minnesota bullpen after posting a 2.12 ERA over 29 2/3 innings with the Orioles in 2024. He’s dealt with injuries, but the 35-year-old has the talent to be a solid bridge to whoever wins the closing job for Minnesota in 2025.

Coulombe was a rather surprising non-tender by the Orioles after an injury-plagued 2024 that saw him post a 2.12 ERA in 29 2/3 innings. He’s essentially replacing Caleb Thielbar at the top lefty in the Twins pen.
