Beltran announced his retirement Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
As expected, the 40-year-old will hang up his cleats after winning his first World Series ring. The switch-hitting Beltran compiled a .279/.350/.486 line with 435 homers and 312 stolen bases across 20 major-league seasons with seven different teams.
Beltran is not in the lineup for Game 6 of the World Series against the Dodgers on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.
As expected, Beltran will open Tuesday's game on the bench with no DH spot available in Dodger Stadium. He'll be available off the bench as a pinch hitter, but seeing as the veteran is just 0-for-2 in the World Series so far, he likely won't be manager A.J. Hinch's first option.
Beltran is out of the lineup for Game 3 of the World Series against the Dodgers on Friday.
Beltran has recorded one at-bat during each of the first two contests as a pinch hitter, and will once again remain out of the starting nine while Evan Gattis mans the DH position as the series begins in Houston. Throughout the 2017 playoffs, Beltran is just 3-for-19 at the plate, with a pair of doubles and one RBI.
Beltran is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the World Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
Without the DH available at Dodger Stadium, Beltran will once again take a seat on the bench as the team faces Rich Hill for the second contest of the Fall Classic. Looking ahead, with right-hander Yu Darvish on the mound for Los Angeles in Game 3, Beltran may be back in the lineup Friday when the series heads to Houston.
