Fields, who inked a minor-league deal with the organization in May, had been pitching for the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville. Over 12 appearances with the club, the reliever gave up 11 earned runs on 19 hits and six walks across 17 frames. He'll likely have to settle for another minor-league contract as he heads back into free agency.

Fields played a fairly significant role out of the Dodgers' bullpen last year, racking up eight holds and even a couple saves when Kenley Jansen was unavailable. The Dodgers then gave Fields a one-year, $2.65 million deal to avoid arbitration in the winter, but two months later, he was released outright. If he can get back on track with Nashville, Fields could get a look in a Rangers bullpen that has a collective 4.62 ERA.

Fields has now been released by both the Dodgers and Brewers this season. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) in 7.2 innings for Triple-A San Antonio but had an ERA under 3.00 in each of the last two seasons with the Dodgers, so it's still possible that he's pitching in a big-league bullpen somewhere soon.

Fields will join the Brewers in major-league camp after being designated for assignment and subsequently released by the Dodgers earlier in the month. He's expected to open the season in the minors, per Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, but seeing as the veteran reliever owns a 2.61 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 115:34 K:BB across 117.1 innings over the last three seasons, he should eventually factor into the bullpen picture for Milwaukee.
