AJ Ramos has announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Ramos, who sustained a season-ending shoulder injury earlier this spring in Angels' camp, made the announcement on his personal Twitter account. The 35-year-old righty was a dominant reliever early in his nine-year career, which included stints with the Marlins, Mets, Angels and Rockies. He finishes with 99 saves to go along with a 3.04 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 430/205 K/BB ratio across 373 1/3 innings since 2012.
Angeles released RHP AJ Ramos.
Ramos is expected to miss the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn capsule in his right shoulder this spring. There's a strong possibility that the 35-year-old righty's major-league career is over.
AJ Ramos (shoulder) will likely miss the entire 2022 season after being diagnosed with a torn capsule in his right shoulder.
Brutal news. The 35-year-old veteran righty sustained the injury during a Cactus League relief appearance last weekend and appears to be done for the entire 2022 season. It's entirely possible that this injury winds up ending his professional career.
AJ Ramos exited Sunday's Cactus League contest against the Giants with right shoulder soreness.
Ramos is in Angels' camp as a non-roster invitee and this latest injury likely ends his bid for a spot on the team's Opening Day roster. The severity of the injury is unclear, but it seems like he's going to miss some time.
