Jones suffered the injury at his residence in Arizona when he tripped over one of his son's toys. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the 31-year-old left-hander will be sidelined for the entirety of the 2020 season -- if there is a 2020 season. Jones signed a minor league contract with the Rangers with an invitation to spring training in January after posting a 2.67 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 64 innings last year between Double-A and Triple-A.

Jones underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016, but he has spent time in the Rangers' organization since then. The 31-year-old posted a 2.45 ERA last year with Triple-A Nashville and will get to compete in major-league spring training ahead of the 2020 season.

Jones will continue his transformation from outfielder to pitcher, one that started in 2016. Injuries and wildness have impacted that transition. The 30-year-old left-hander owns a 7.61 ERA while giving up 53 hits and 23 walks over 36.2 innings.
