Adam Jones will officially retire as an Oriole on September 15.

That just feels right. Jones last played in the majors in 2019 as a member of the Diamondbacks before a two-year stint in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes between 2020-2021. He originally came up with the Mariners in 2006 before being dealt to Baltimore in the Erik Bedard trade, which worked out wonderfully for the Orioles, as he would go on to spend 11 seasons with the club. Jones emerged as a cornerstone member of the team while making five All-Star teams and winning a Gold Glove. He’ll finish his career with 1,939 hits, 282 home runs, 945 RBI, and a .277/.317/.454 batting line over 1,823 major league games.

Jones has spent the last two seasons with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball after a 14-year career in the majors that included stops with the Mariners, Orioles and Diamondbacks. The 36-year-old outfielder acknowledged that his playing career might be over, but he'd love to continue playing in Japan.

Jones posted via Instagram he agreed to a two-year deal with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan on Tuesday.

Jones didn't end up securing a contract for 2019 until joining the Diamondbacks in March, so he'll now head to Japan for a two-year deal that includes $8 million guaranteed. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal also includes a team option for 2022, and the 34-year-old could earn up to $15.5 million total if he reaches all the included incentives. Jones slashed .260/.313/.414 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI in 137 games with Arizona last season after spending the previous 11 years with Baltimore.

Unsurprisingly, he will sit the season finale after exiting Saturday's game with right hamstring tightness. Tim Locastro will start in right field and bat sixth.
