George Kontos has retired from his playing career.

The Nationals released Kontos from his minor-league contract Wednesday.

Kontos signed a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

The Cubs reassigned Kontos to their minor-league camp Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
