Yimi Garcia recorded his first save of the 2025 season on Thursday, working a perfect ninth inning to protect a two-run lead against the Red Sox.
With Jeff Hoffman unavailable on Thursday, Garcia stepped into the closer’s role and filled in admirably, retiring all three hitters that he faced in order including punchouts of Trevor Story and Triston Casas. On the season, Garcia has fired 14 shutout innings with a 0.71 WHIP and an 18/4 K/BB ratio.
Yimi Garcia struck out two in a perfect ninth for a save Monday against the Nationals.
Jeff Hoffman had this one off after throwing 38 pitches the last two days. Garcia has yet to allow a run in three appearances this season. He should be off Tuesday, but the Jays will have Hoffman back to close.
Blue Jays signed RHP Yimi Garcia to a two-year, $15 million contract.
The 34-year-old right-hander returns to the Jays where he functioned as one of the better setup men in the American League from 2022-2024 before he was dealt to the Mariners at last season’s trade deadline. He should return to a high-leverage role in front of Chad Green or whoever else the Blue Jays plan to bring in to work in the ninth inning.
Ari Alexander of KPRC reports that the Blue Jays are signing Yimi Garcia to a two-year contract.
Garcia joins the Blue Jays after spending most of the 2024 season with Toronto before a deadline trade to the Mariners. The right-hander picked up an elbow injury to end the year, but was effective with a 3.46 ERA and 49/12 K/BB in 34 innings prior to being placed on the injured. He should serve as a bridge to whomever the Blue Jays sign to close in 2025.
