Rays released RHP Jake Odorizzi.
The 34-year-old veteran signed a minor league deal with the Rays during spring training. Odorizzi made two starts in Triple-A this season in hopes to get back into the majors, but if that’s going to happen, it won’t be with Tampa Bay. The right-hander missed the 2023 season while recovering from shoulder surgery.
Jake Odorizzi was pulled from his start at Triple-A Durham on Sunday due to an apparent injury.
The 34-year-old hurler had thrown just 28 pitches over 1 1/3 innings and experienced a major drop in velocity before a conference with the training staff and his ultimate removal from the game. Presumably, the oft-injured right-hander will be heading for testing to find out exactly what’s going on. Odorizzi missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from shoulder surgery.
Jake Odorizzi made his spring debut Tuesday and gave up three runs in three innings against the Tigers.
Odorizzi is coming off shoulder surgery and just signed a minor league deal with the Rays on March 15. He’ll open the season in the minors, but he should be a rotation candidate for the Rays before the end of April.
Rays signed RHP Jake Odorizzi to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Odorizzi missed all of last season recovering from shoulder surgery and is highly unlikely to make an impact for fantasy managers. The 33-year-old righty enjoyed some of the best seasons of his career with the Rays last decade and represents a low-risk lottery ticket for Tampa Bay as extra organizational rotation depth.
