Pirates released RHP Wily Peralta.

This should have been done the moment the has-been threw at Pete Crow-Armstrong’s head (two pitches after throwing behind him) during Indianapolis’s game against Iowa last month. But it seemed the Pirates were OK with that. They weren’t OK after he gave up eight runs in his last two appearances, taking his Triple-A ERA to 7.44.

Pirates signed RHP Wily Peralta to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Peralta was surprisingly successful for the Tigers in 2021 (3.07 ERA in 94 IP as a starter) and 2022 (2.58 ERA in 38 IP as a reliever), but he wound up 3-8 with a 6.31 ERA in 24 starts for the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate and never saw the majors last season. He’ll probably return to Triple-A for the beginning of this year.

Peralta compiled a strong 2.93 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 90/62 K/BB ratio across 132 innings (47 appearances, 19 starts) over the last two seasons for the Tigers and will compete this spring for a spot on the Nationals' season-opening roster. The 33-year-old right-hander is likely to experience some regression from a run-prevention standpoint, but he should be a solid innings-eater for Washington if he makes the Opening Day roster in a long relief role.

Tigers released RHP Wily Peralta.

Peralta went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last weekend by the Tigers and will test the free agent waters rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Toledo. The 33-year-old veteran right-hander has recorded a solid 2.93 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 90/62 K/BB ratio across 132 innings (47 appearances, 19 starts) over the last two seasons for Detroit.
