Walters was acquired by the Royals on Wednesday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
Walters came to the Royals from the Kansas City T-Bones of the Independent League. The 27-year-old spent some time with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate early in the season, but he was let go after slashing .174/.208/.239 in 48 plate appearances. The switch-hitter hasn't been assigned to a minor-league affiliate yet.
Dodgers designated Zach Walters for assignment.
Walters only appeared in three games for the Dodgers since his recent call up. Unfortunately he was not able to reach base once for the team. After those few appearances he will be sent back to the minors.
Dodgers optioned Zach Walters to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
It was a quick stint for Walters as he was up at the Major League level for less than a week and collected only five at-bats in which he went hitless. Walters was playing well in Triple-A and is a prime candidate to return if there is another injury or when September rolls around.
Dodgers recalled Zach Walters from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Walters will be taking Thompson's spot on the roster after he was placed on the DL on Saturday. Walters is a utility man who can play at second and in the outfield. While at Triple-A Oklahoma City he slashed .298/.346/.491 in 77 games played. He shouldn't stick around for more than the weekend as Joc Pederson is expected to be activated on Tuesday.
