Byrd has officially been suspended by the MLB for using illegal Performance Enhancing Drugs. This is Byrd's second suspension for PED's as he was suspended for 50 games in 2012. One more violation of the leagues policy would result in a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball.

Byrd got off to a bit of a slow start this season but he has picked it up over his last seven outings, as he is hitting .292 with two home runs and nine RBI over that span. Byrd is getting up there in age but he has shown he can still be relied upon at the plate. He may not be a surefire starter in fantasy, but he does enough to worthy of a spot start here and there.

Byrd has brought a nice veteran dynamic to this Indians team but has yet to really produce up to his standards after the past few seasons of showing off his power stroke. He is currently hitting .253 with three home runs and 14 RBI and his .736 OPS shows he still has plenty left in the tank. He may not be the best option in fantasy but in deep leagues he could be someone to take a flier on.

Byrd launched the eventual game winning shot off of Justin Verlander in the seventh making it his third straight game with a run scored. The veteran outfielder has gotten off to an okay start hitting .250/.349/.444 but has still shown the ability to drive in runs for a decent Indians offense with five RBI so far. Once Michael Brantley comes back there will be some shifting about that happens in the Cleveland outfield which could reduce Byrd’s playing time. Anibal Sanchez is the starting for the Tigers on Saturday and though it’s a small sample size, 1-for-3, it’s a productive one with a homer and an RBI.
