After signing a minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks in February, Nolasco stuck around at extended spring training for a few months due to the unspecified injury before he was finally cleared to report to the Double-A club. Though he's made 312 starts at the big-league level, Nolasco was hit hard during his last stint in the majors in 2017 with the Angels and probably won't be viewed as much more than an emergency rotation option for Arizona.

Nolasco was always a long shot to break camp with the team, and his three earned runs in 3.2 spring innings didn't help his case. The 36-year-old isn't a great bet to make a big-league impact this year, as he last pitched back in 2017 and had a 4.92 ERA in that season.

Nolasco last pitched in the major leagues during the 2017 season, when he started 33 games for the Angels and posted a 4.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with a 143:58 K:BB through 181 innings. He figures to serve as organizational depth for Arizona at Triple-A but could return to the big leagues should the Diamondbacks struggle through any injury problems within their starting rotation.

Nolasco recently joined the organization on a minor-league contract but was released prior to Saturday's opt-out deadline. He will look to latch on with another team after logging a 4.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 33 starts with the Angels in 2017.
