2025 Player Outlook
Zack Wheeler has been the most consistently awesome pitcher in baseball over the last five years. Wheeler is one of the only pitchers in baseball you can comfortably project for 200 innings and it still comes with Cy Young upside. The upside of Skenes and Skubal might be higher, but not by much and Wheeler doesn't come with the injury risk of those other top guys. I see arguments for taking Wheeler as the top pitcher in drafts and should probably never be going lower than third.
Player News
Zack Wheeler fanned nine while allowing two runs over six innings Wednesday against the Mets.
Wheeler didn’t make many mistakes aside from Brett Baty’s two-run homer in the second — which came on one of just four cutters he threw in the outing — but there wasn’t much support to be had today. Wheeler, who has struck out 22 over his last two outings, is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA through six starts. He’ll face the Nationals next week.
Zack Wheeler fanned 13 while limiting the Marlins to two runs over seven innings in the Phillies’ 7-2 victory Friday.
Eric Wagaman’s homer in the sixth did the damage, as Wheeler continued his streak of allowing exactly one homer in every start this season. It’s just the second time in his career that Wheeler has struck out so many batters. His high is 14, which he established against the Rays four years ago. Because of the homers, Wheeler’s ERA sits at 3.73, but he has an exceptional 41/6 K/BB in 31 1/3 innings over five starts. He’ll face the Mets next.
Zack Wheeler surrendered four runs in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Wheeler gave up a single and a homer in the fourth and then three doubles for two more runs in the sixth. He was pretty unlucky in that inning; Brandon Marsh nearly made a play on the first double, the second was a grounder and then the third was a flare that one-hopped into the stands down the left field line. It’s the first loss of the year for Wheeler, who is 1-1 with a 4.07 ERA. He’ll face the Marlins next.
Zack Wheeler struggled in a no-decision against the Braves on Tuesday evening, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
Wheeler punched out seven batters on the night while walking three. He served up a two-out, three-run blast to Sean Murphy in the second inning then kept the Phillies off the board until the sixth. There, he exited after allowing three consecutive one-out singles and a walk to Orlando Arcia, with the final run scoring against the bullpen. Wheeler got 13 swings and misses on 104 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll look to get back on track as he carries a 3.44 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 25/4 K/BB ratio into Sunday’s showdown against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
