Escobar (oblique) will continue ramping up his baseball activities next week in the instructional league, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports.
Although Escobar will get a more intensive workout in next week, the club has withheld any sort of timetable for the infielder at this point in time. If Escobar is going to return before the end of the regular season, he will have to impress the organization while he's with the instructional league team, especially after suffering a setback for the second time since landing on the DL in early August. In his place, Luis Valbuena continues to earn the bulk of the action at the hot corner.
Escobar (oblique) worked out on the field and hit in the batting cage Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Escobar has clearly made notable progress since suffering a rehab setback earlier this month, but according to manager Mike Scioscia, he still remains without a firm timeline for return. Luis Valbuena will continue to hold down third base in his absence.
Escobar (oblique) felt discomfort in his strained oblique for the second time during his rehab assignment and has no timetable for a return, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
What appeared to be a short DL stint has turned into a month-long absence for the veteran third baseman. The Angels are in no rush to activate Escobar with C.J. Cron and Luis Valbuena both playing well in his absence. It is unclear what the club plans to do with the 30-year-old, but it doesn't sound like he is returning anytime soon.
Escobar (oblique) is scheduled to resume swinging a bat Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Escobar had reached the final phase of the recovery process from the strained right oblique by participating in two rehab games with High-A Inland Empire last week, but he was pulled off the minor-league assignment after experiencing some renewed stiffness. After a few days off to recuperate, Escobar seems to have shown some improvement, but an exact timetable for his return from the 10-day disabled list has yet to be determined. More clarity on that front could arrives if his swinging goes well Monday.
