Chirinos heads overseas for the 2025 campaign to attempt to rebuild his long-term value after recording a calamitous 6.30 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 25/13 K/BB ratio over 30 innings (six starts) last season for the rebuilding Marlins. The 30-year-old righty, who has made 75 appearances (44 starts) in the big leagues since 2018, hasn’t missed a ton of bats throughout his career, but he’s always been a reliable ground-ball machine capable of gobbling up low-leverage innings.

Chirinos went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will presumably stick around with Miami as extra starting pitching depth rather than electing free agency. Chirinos gave up five runs in five innings of work Monday against the Mets, and the right-hander has a 6.30 ERA and 1.87 WHIP over his 30 innings with Miami. He’ll now hit the waiver wire, and a team in need of innings could consider adding him via claim or trade. Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Tuesday’s contest against Baltimore.

Chirinos served up nine hits, including a solo shot to Francisco Lindor and a two-run blast to Jeff McNeil, and was saddled with yet another loss. He struck out four and also handed out four free passes. The 30-year-old righty has done a decent job gobbling up innings for the rebuilding Marlins of late, but his inability to miss bats should keep him off fantasy rosters until further notice.
