Diamondbacks released INF Yairo Muñoz.
Muñoz got into 29 games last season for the Phillies and signed a minor league contract back in January with the Diamondbacks. The 28-year-old infielder was batting .304 (14-for-46) with zero homers and five RBI through 12 games this season at Triple-A Reno. He doesn't have anything left to prove in the upper minors, but has never quite been able to carve out a reserve role at the highest level.
Diamondbacks signed INF/OF Yairo Munoz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Munoz got into 29 contests last season for the Phillies, collecting just 12 hits in 57 at-bats, including a trio of home runs, before being removed from Philadelphia's 40-man roster in mid-November. The 28-year-old offers some defensive versatility and has dominated offensively at the Triple-A level the last few seasons. He'll compete for a spot on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster this spring in Cactus League action.
Phillies sent INF/OF Yairo Muñoz outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Muñoz failed to land a spot on the Phillies' playoff roster after the club picked up versatile middle infielder Edmundo Sosa from the Cardinals at the trade deadline. The 27-year-old infielder, who got into 29 contests last year with Philadelphia, will likely elect to become a minor league free agent rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies optioned INF/OF Yairo Muñoz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phils have decided they prefer to have Darick Hall on the roster for Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals. Muñoz has a .654 OPS in 29 games this season.
