Cedeno (arm) was moved to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Cedeno has already been on the shelf for over 60 days, so this appears to be simply procedural. The Cubs will be able to add David Phelps to the 40-man roster following Tuesday's move.
Cedeno (wrist) began a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Iowa, tossing a scoreless 18-pitch inning.
Cedeno retired three of the four batters he faced, working around a walk to turn in a clean frame. Considering that Cedeno's left wrist has proven bothersome since spring training, the Cubs may want him to complete another appearance or two in the minors before bringing him back from the 10-day injured list.
Cedeno was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation Wednesday.
The same injury prevented Cedeno from making his season debut until May 11. He threw two scoreless innings but had a 3.50 WHIP in five appearances before landing back on the injured list. Rowan Wick was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.
Cedeno (wrist) was activated from the injured list Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Cedeno has yet to pitch in a big-league game for the Cubs because of his injury, but he is ready to go after making 10 appearances in the minors. Cedeno will pitch out of the bullpen and figures to mainly work situationally when manager Joe Maddon wants to bring in a southpaw to face an opposing left-handed hitter or two.
