Adames’ first big game for the Giants doubled his homer count for the season and upped his OPS from .602 to .675. In spite of his struggles, he has managed 20 runs scored and 18 RBI in 35 games. It’s not like the Giants were going to move him down in the lineup a few months after signing him for $182 million.

Adames led off the fourth inning with a solo homer off Nick Pivetta to put the Giants on the board. He later led off the sixth with a double and scored on a base hit by Jung Hoo Lee. It was one of Adames’ better days at the plate as he had just five total extra-base hits on the season before adding two on Tuesday. The 29-year-old shortstop is slashing .212/.286/.305 with two homers, 16 runs scored, and 15 RBI across 133 plate appearances.

Adames hit 32 homers for the Brewers last season, but it took him 69 plate appearances to get one for the Giants. Tonight’s wasn’t a monster shot, either; the 378-foot drive to right-center at CBP would have been a homer in only seven ballparks, says Statcast, and certainly would not have been one in Oracle. Adames surely will go on a homer binge at some point, but it’s doubtful that he’ll approach 30 for the year while playing half of his games in San Francisco.
