Walker Buehler (shoulder) said Sunday that he’s feeling fine and is only dealing with minor bursitis.
Buehler told reporters he’d pitch through the issue if it were later in the season, but he doesn’t want to take any chances at this early stage of the year. He added that he’s hoping it’ll be a minimum stint on the injured list, which should put him back in Boston’s rotation by mid-May. It’ll be prospect Hunter Dobbins making at least one additional start in his absence.
Red Sox placed RHP Walker Buehler on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters that he believes Buehler’s stint on the injured list will be minimal. Hunter Dobbins is expected to start in his place on Saturday and could stick around to occupy that rotation spot for as long as Buehler is shelved.
Walker Buehler is heading for additional testing on his right shoulder after he had trouble bouncing back from Satutday’s start against the Guardians.
The 30-year-old hurler allowed three runs over six frames in a victory over the Guardians on Saturday. When it came time to throw his side session this week though, something didn’t feel right which prompted the Red Sox to take a look at his shoulder. Stay tuned, but at least his scheduled start on Friday against the Twins seems to be in serious jeopardy.
Walker Buehler pitched six innings and allowed three runs to defeat the Guardians in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
All of the runs came in the fourth, an inning which featured a Jhonkensy Noel homer. Buehler finished with three strikeouts and seven whiffs in the 87-pitch outing. We still wouldn’t go recommending him in mixed leagues, but the Red Sox will remain satisfied with average results. He’ll probably make his next start Friday against the Twins, though Thursday in Toronto is also an option.
