Victor Reyes has signed with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Reyes will bring home $950,000 with his new contract with the Giants. The 29-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox, hitting .279/.330/.452 with 20 homers across 546 plate appearances, and will look to rebuild his value overseas.
Victor Reyes, who spent last year in Triple-A with the White Sox, is set to sign with the Lotte Giants of Korea.
Reyes is just a tad short of being an adequate reserve outfielder in the majors, and now that he’s 29, additional chances figured to be hard to come by. The switch-hitter came in at .264/.294/.379 in 1,280 plate appearances for the Tigers from 2018-22.
White Sox reassigned OF Victor Reyes, INF Moises Castillo, C Adam Hackenberg and RHPs Declan Cronin, Lane Ramsey and Jesse Scholtens to minor league camp.
Reyes has a decent amount of big league experience from his time with the Tigers, but he was always facing an uphill battle at a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 28-year-old hit .269 (7-for-26) with one RBI during Cactus League play.
White Sox signed OF Victor Reyes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 28-year-old outfielder leaves the Tigers, but will stay in the division by joining the White Sox. He slashed an unimpressive .254/.289/.362 with three homers, 34 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 336 underwhelming plate appearances during the 2022 season. He's got decent bat-to-ball skills, but the power and speed are sorely lacking, making him an unappealing fantasy option.
