Angels signed LHP Victor González to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 29-year-old southpaw did a nice job in 27 appearances for the Yankees during the 2024 season, registering a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 11/13 K/BB ratio over his 23 1/3 innings of work. Looking at what’s ahead of him on the depth chart currently, there’s no reason that González shouldn’t be able to compete for a spot in the Halos’ Opening Day bullpen.
Yankees released LHP Victor González.
González was sent outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre back in June, and now he’ll look for a new opportunity. Don’t be surprised if that move doesn’t come until the offseason, but there’s a chance someone could give him an opportunity for the final couple of weeks of 2024.
Yankees sent LHP Victor González outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
González had a 3.86 ERA before being sent down by the Yankees, though it came with an 11/13 K/BB in 23 1/3 innings. The Yankees are surely glad he cleared waivers, and he might well reemerge as a bullpen option in the second half.
Yankees designated LHP Victor Gonzalez for assignment.
Gonzalez had a 3.86 ERA in 27 appearances with New York, but the Yankees had a bit of a roster crunch and need a fresh arm after the 17-5 laugher that necessitated nearly eight full innings from the bullpen on Thursday. The Yankees will have seven days to either trade Gonzalez or place him on waivers.
